The EGI Conference 2017 was the EGI Community's main event of 2017 and the last meeting organised in the context of the EGI-Engage project. The programme focused on the technical roadmap of EGI, with days  to authorisation and authentication, compute services both HTC and cloud, as well as storage and data services and uptake of the services in scientific communities.

The EGI Council has decided to simplify the name of the European Grid Infrastructure to EGI – just the acronym without an expansion. The change reflects the evolution of EGI towards becoming a worldwide, technology-agnostic e-Infrastructure for science.

Each of the EGI-Engage Competence Centres include activities aiming at engaging with the respective Research Infrastructure communities in order to maximise the exploitation of the results of the Competence Centres within those communities. For the next period the different Competence Centres are planning the following activities in this respect:

Improved support for the long-tail of science is to be reached through improving support for the NGIs. This is achieved by a software integration and policy development project that creates a technical platform, the ‘EGI Platform for the Long-tail of science’. The platform drives new users from the long-tail onto an international resource pool that is operated from resources contributed by EGI’s resource providers for the long-tail of science

March,10-13 the Delegation of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) visited Kyiv. The main purpose of the visit is to discuss further ways of cooperation mechanism under the Agreement with Ukraine on granting it the status of associate member of CERN.
